Can my dog eat persimmons?

Like other pitted fruits (cherries, peaches, plums), persimmons have to be prepared properly in order for dogs to eat them.

The seeds of persimmons are the problem because canines cannot digest them properly so the seeds can accumulate, especially in the small intestine. Any blockage in the digestive tract can lead to significant problems, so be sure to throw away all persimmons seeds.

However, the fleshy part of the persimmons contains vitamin A, antioxidants, beta-carotene, and other nutrients. A small slice of persimmons is usually enough of a serving. As with any fruit, be sure to monitor your dog’s intake as the added water can result in diarrhea or loose stool.
