Erethizon dorsatum
Porcupine scat can change from season to season. In the winter, porcupines feed on conifers, producing red scat. Summer scat includes more variety of shrubs and herbs in the diet, producing a scat that is brown to black. In both seasons, porcupine scat can consist of individual pellets or strings of pellets connected by fibers.
