Opposum
Didelphimorphia

Opossum scat varies in composition because of the animal’s varied diet. The cord is often between half and three-quarters of an inch with a tapered tail. The appearance can vary greatly due to the diverse diet – when eating meat, the scat will tend to be black or dark brown and have a sticky, tar-like texture; when composed more of vegetation, the scat will tend to be lighter in color and more solidified.

The term possum covers about 70 species of marsupials native to Australia and surrounding islands. Opossum covers over 100 species of marsupials living in the Western Hemisphere. Opossums are often referred to colloquially as possums (or ‘possums), but in scientific contexts, possum and opossum refer to different groups of animals.
