Forefoot pads are 4 to 4.5 inches and nearly as wide as they are long, making a uniform print that is nearly round. Hind prints are slightly smaller. Toes are much smaller and heel pads much larger than those on the mountain lion. Heel pads of all four feet are three-lobed, but the two outermost lobes in a jaguar’s front track are larger than the center lobe and extend more rearward, whereas the three lobes in a mountain lion’s front track are of nearly equal size. Walking stride is about 20 inches, but can very greatly in the cat’s overgrown habitat, straddle 8 to 10 inches.
