Cottontail rabbit prints have toes that are asymmetrical around the foot axis. Due to the foot being completely covered in hair and lacking pads, prints can be difficult to observe. Sometimes the claws will register and can be observed. If the claw marks are evident, it could be the only sign the rabbit was hopping. The hind footprint is about two and a half times longer than the front print.
