While 4leggers has grown into a site that offers fact sheets, helpful tips, and feature stories about all four-legged mammals from household cats to mountain lions, bears, elephants and even mice, the foundation of 4leggers is our love of dogs.

To help educate the public about how important canines are to our everyday life, even though we often don’t know it, 4leggers has launched a series of stories about some of the most courageous dogs in the world: CIA K9 officers.

Check out of pages of active CIA K9 officers and those dogs who have been enshrined in the CIA K9 Hall of Fame.

If you know of any courageous dogs – whether working dogs or just a neighbor’s dog who saved a life or did something courageous – please contact us and we’ll follow up about doing a story: change [at] sherpamultimedia [dot] com.

CIA K9 Officer

NAME: Colonel

BREED: Labrador retriever

SPECIALTY: explosive detection

BIRTHPLACE: undisclosed

Hello, my name is Colonel. I work for the CIA as an Explosive Detection K-9. When I was younger I belonged to a program called The Seeing Eye Inc., where I learned to help the visually impaired. Well, after a while I decided that wasn’t for me. I went to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives where I met Officer Robin. Together we trained for 10 weeks so that we could learn how to detect explosives. After Officer Robin got the hang of things we formed a wonderful team. My nose is so good that I can detect over 19,000 different scents! Now our job is to protect property and people both here in the United States and overseas.

When I am not working, I am a typical dog. I love to play in my yard, go for walks, and even enjoy an occasional nap. Oh yeah, I love to swim too! I guess that’s what us black labs do best. I am so glad that I met Officer Robin. We have a lot of fun together.
